Wharnley
Burn is a 14th Century Farmhouse, conveniently situated on the A68 in the beautiful
Derwent Valley, on the border of County Durham and Northumberland. We are an
ideal touring centre for historic Durham, Corbridge, Hexham, Gateshead and Newcastle,
as well as many interesting villages.For those wanting a more energetic holiday the area abounds in beautiful walks in the North Pennines, sailing, canoeing and bird watching on the Derwent Reservoir, all within easy reach. We are also near the C2C cycle route. We are a smallholding of about 15 acres with a cottage garden to relax in. We keep ponies, goats, geese, ducks and chickens, as well as cats and dogs. |

![]() Our old farmhouse is 600 years old and is the oldest dwelling house in North West Durham. It has great charm and allows you to step back in time to the days of low-beamed ceilings and very low doorways. However we do have many 21st Century comforts, including full central heating and wood burning stoves. Wharnley Burn was once the home of a local Highwayman in the 17th Century. |
